Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction Gigs in July.

April 17, 2009

Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction are playing two arena dates in the UK in July.

On Tuesday I got two standing tickets for the gig at the M.E.N Arena in Manchester on Tuesday July 14th, and this morning I picked up two seated tickets for the O2 Arena gig in London on Wednesday July 15th.

The will be NIN gigs 11 and 12 and as Mr Reznor is planning on taking a break, I think the chances are these will be my last.

It all ties up nicely into round figures -

20 years as a fan, after I first heard Head Like A Hole.
London will be gig number 12.
London will also be 10 years since I first saw NIN live in 1999 at Brixton Academy, having missed them on two previous occasions, which were at Manchester Academy, 22nd May, 1994 on The Downward Spiral Tour and London Wembley Stadium, Saturday 31st August 1991 on a red hot summers day when they supported Gun’s and Roses.

Tickets are still available from various outlets, non of which will be referenced and linked in this post due to their persistent theft under the guise of booking and transaction fees.

As for Jane’s Addiction, yes I am a fan and I have seen them twice, the first time being at the Leeds Festival where they were on stunning form, the second time was at Manchester Apollo shortly after and they were awful, and I mean really awful!

So roll on sunny July!

I Just Can’t Help It…

March 13, 2008

I finally got around to downloading the new Nine Inch Nails album Ghosts I-IV on Thursday last week, I went for the $5.00 option, obviously because I am tight Yorkshireman!

I was very impressed by the download, not only the music but the PDF files and the graphics that came with it.

On Saturday morning I immersed myself in the album and was blown away by Ghost 13, which I think is a stunning piece of work.

What really struck me was how I could envisage a visual for the music of Ghost 13 almost straight away.

After 6 hours hammering it out on After Effects, I finally came up with a short 40 second promo video for the track.

This then led on to presenting it along with getting all the PDF files in one place where they could be viewed at leisure.

Ladies and Gentlemen – I give you my very own Ghosts I-IV promo spot!

Watch the video and then click the link to see the Flash Book.

It’s All Over For Record Labels (How To Make $750,000.00 In 24 Hours.)

March 6, 2008

On Sunday 2nd March 2008 Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails officially signalled the end of Record Labels as we know them (Eat your heart out Steve!).

Reznor concluded his contract with his label Interscope last year with the Year Zero Remix album and became a free agent.

For the last two weeks prior to Sunday, he had indicated via NIN.com something was in the pipeline by simply saying “Soon…”

On Sunday night he released Ghosts I-IV, a 36 track instrumental album.

The album was available in 5 different formats -

Free Download – The first 9 tracks from the Ghosts I-IV collection available as high-quality, DRM-free MP3s, including the complete PDF.

$5.00 Download – All 36 tracks in a variety of digital formats including a 40 page PDF.

$10.00 2x CD Set – Ghosts I-IV on two audio CDs in a six panel digipak package with a 16 page booklet.

$75.00 Deluxe Edition Package – Ghosts I-IV in a hardcover fabric slipcase containing: 2 audio CDs, 1 data DVD with all 36 tracks in multi-track format, and a Blu-ray disc with Ghosts I-IV in high-definition 96/24 stereo and accompanying slideshow.

Last but not least the piece de resistance -

$300.00 Ultra Deluxe Limited Edition Package – Limited to 2500 copies and carrying the personal hand written signature of the man himself.

Now for the science bit…

The $300.00 Ultra Deluxe Limited Edition Package SOLD OUT IN 24 HOURS, this means that -

300 x 2500 = 750,000.00.

And there in that figure (750,000.00) lies the proof that Record Labels are now dead in the water.

Reznor generated three quarters of a million dollars in 24 hours and has to answer to no one…no record executives, no one at Interscope, NO ONE!

Not bad for someone who used to clean famous people’s pubic hair off the toilet seat…

Nine Inch Nails Release Still in Download Format.

December 19, 2007

Nine Inch Nails have released the limited edition Still CD in download format according to www.nin.com today.

The album contains stripped down tracks of some old NIN faves and is recorded in quite a raw, yet intimate format.

It’s not perfect, but then it shouldn’t be as it’s recorded live within a studio environment.

Having seen some of the video footage that was taken at the time, the recordings were done at night with just candles lighting up the studio and the wind blowing into the room through open doors and windows.

The music is very deconstructed and is based around Reznor and a piano.

It’s not loud and it’s not aggressive, but it shows another side of Reznor and the NIN experience.

See Amazon for the download.
