NSPA IONMAN PAINTBALL TOURNAMENT 27/07/2008.

July 31, 2008

Here are a couple of pictures from the NSPA Ionman Paintball Tournament that I played in on Sunday 27/07/2008.

I played for Fusion Black who won the tournament, but who were also well and truly beaten on the day by the other two Fusion teams we entered.

This was the hottest day of the year so far, and come our last game of the day at 3:00pm it was about 30 degrees.

My player of the day, was my team mate Chris Smith who scored us some many points it was untrue, and also managed to dig us out of some very big holes, including beating Newcastle Lockdown when it had gone down to one on one.

This is why we play…

January 28, 2008

Matt Marshall -

It happens on a random monday, coming back from an event, or late on a sunday night, right before you get on the plane and you’re about to be frisked for the third time.

You’re driving, you’re flying, you’re sitting in an airport seat with boys from the team.

You’re drinking stale coffee trying to stay awake.

You’re explaining the fat welt on the side of your neck to a confused stranger or a best friend.

You’re coming back to the other life, the one without paintball, where no one understands why you do it.

You’re tired, you’re working off little sleep, and the question creeps up and you try to ignore it “Why do I do this? Why the travel, why the losses, the missed work, the missed school, hours of practice and the complaining girlfriend?”

Because the lure of living a paintball life is just too potent, and the products of the road, the travel, are memories forever in trips and strange lands with stranger people.

At tournaments, it feels like, for once, you actually get to live as loud as you want.

It’s worth the sacrifices, its worth all the bullshit, because if you work hard enough, a sunday will roll around, and you’ll be in the huddle, screaming, with your hand in, one among ten, playing for the world title, and suddenly all those cliches that you ever heard make sense, and you, are defined.

You say it to yourself, and it means everything “I am a paintball player, and this moment, right here, is my life.”

Dishing it out.

Fat Bob’s Fusion Paintball Team Logo.

January 10, 2008

This is the logo I designed in 2006 for Fat Bob’s Fusion Paintball Team.

This is the team I play for, based at the Yorkshire Paintball Center in York.

The logo took about 14 hours to come to life starting with a blank canvas and no design brief.

It’s a piece of work I am very proud of.

Streaming The Men Of Iron.

January 8, 2008

I have been involved in the ‘sport’ of paintball as a player on and off for 20 years now, pretty much since it first started.

As an industry it has had its fair share of cowboys and people chasing the fast buck just like any other industry.

However, with the internet now almost over a decade old in terms of mass use, some paintball brands are finally recognising that brand awareness and a good website will get them a long way.

With this in mind, I came across the new Team Ironmen website which I feel encapsulates exactly what the team stand for.

It is done in Flash and incorporates a lot of Flash Video, not only in the introduction, but you can view video of player profiles and watch the team in action.

With a web presence like this and the fact the Ironmen have just won the 2007 Paintball World Cup, it will be no wonder sponsors will be more than happy to part with the cash to help the team out.

We Have Lift Off…

December 6, 2007

Well I have finally decided to take the plunge and start a blog.

I jumped out of bed this morning full of the joys of spring and after some deliberation I decided I should make the effort

I am a professional web designer / developer with a passion for Flash Video, Flash Media Server, Flash and Graphic Design.

I play tournament paintball for a team called Fusion based in York at the Yorkshire Paintball Center.

I love music.
